9:00 am – 10:00 am | Runza Corporate Headquarters Tour
8800 Firethorn Ln, Suite 300, Lincoln, NE | 1 HSW SOLD OUT

Founded in 1949 in Lincoln as a Family Business, Runza Restaurants was incorporated in 1966 by Donald Everett, Sr. The restaurants popularity has grown the company exponentially since then and his legacy lives on through his three children who currently own and run the Family Business. As Runza began to outgrow its former headquarters space that they had occupied for the past 30 years, the Runza owners decided to look toward the future and build on a new site for the next generation. The new four–level, 54,000 square foot office building was crafted to represent their identity of delivering high quality products, community values, a nod to their past, and a vision for the future.

They chose a quiet setting on a five–acre site located on a rare office–zoned lot on Firethorn's executive golf course. The Plaza on the Green vision is one of modern, high efficiency architecture combined with light and natural surroundings–boasting large windows overlooking a golf course, a lush landscape design, and patio/deck space overlooking the 9th hole on the West Nine. As the main tenant, Runza Corporate occupies the upper floor and the penthouse. The Runza Corporate Headquarters employs an open work environment with the Owners electing to go without walls at their offices and a variety of workstation typologies. Their space personifies the fun and professional office culture the Owners have curated, including a vibrant work café, quite retreat areas, central "family room" for casual meetings and collaboration, covered balcony with wifi, the getaway Penthouse, and its roof–top patio. Additional enhancements for work life balance include shower facilities, a mother's room and a walking path. The Lower Level contains a commercial test kitchen and provides common amenities for all tenants, including a 1,300 square foot conference space, underground parking and unmatched patio views.

Parking on the surface lot is available, please use side street for overflow. Please refrain from parking in the neighboring lots out of courtesy for those businesses.

4:00 pm – 5:00 pm | Contributions of Lee Lawrie and Thomas Rogers Kimball
The Lincoln Marriott Cornhusker Hotel | 333 S 13th Street, Lincoln, NE | 1 HSW

Lee Lawrie was one of the United States' foremost architectural sculptors and a key figure in the American art scene preceding World War II. Over his long career of more than 300 commissions Lawrie's style evolved through Modern Gothic, to Beaux–Arts, Classicism, and, finally, into Moderne or Art Deco. He created a frieze on the Nebraska State Capitol building in Lincoln, Nebraska, including a portrayal of the announcement of the Emancipation Proclamation. He also created some of the architectural sculpture and his most prominent work, the free–standing bronze Atlas (installed 1937) at New York City's Rockefeller Center.

Thomas Rogers Kimball – the Omaha architect whose buildings changed the city's skyline and graced the landscape of Nebraska – will be the new inductee into the Nebraska Hall of Fame. Kimball's designs became St. Cecilia Cathedral in Omaha, the Hall County Courthouse in Grand Island, the Holdrege Public Library, Hastings railroad depots, the Paddock Hotel in Beatrice and the carriage house at Arbor Lodge in Nebraska City. A bronze bust of Kimball will be commissioned for placement in the Capitol. An induction ceremony will be held in 2019. Kimball was instrumental in setting up the unique selection process for the designer of Nebraska's Capitol. Kimball achieved national prominence when he and his Boston partner were selected as the architects in chief of the 1898 Trans–Mississippi and International Exposition in Omaha.

Implosion of Cather & Pound Halls: Research Findings | 1 HSW | Ballroom B

A pair of decommissioned thirteen–story reinforced concrete buildings were demolished via controlled implosion at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln in December 2017. The implosion consisted of controlled charges at select columns on alternating floors throughout the buildings, which initiated the collapse of the two buildings. This controlled implosion provided the rare opportunity to monitor and characterize the collapse progression of the buildings as well as the response of nearby and adjacent structures to both the remote blast loading and the subsequent building collapse. The pair of buildings were monitored with 32 accelerometers and multiple ground–based and aerial video platforms for the duration of the building implosion, as well as 21 additional accelerometers in the free field and in adjacent structures. Prior to the implosion, the modal properties, including natural frequencies and mode shapes of the pair of buildings, were identified under ambient vibration conditions, which aided in the development of detailed finite element models of the structures. In this presentation, the landmark dataset will be introduced alongside key observations of the performance of the pair of buildings as well as that of adjacent structures, followed by a comparison of the recorded data to the results of detailed finite element simulations.

OFS and The WELL Building Standard | 1 HSW | Ballroom C

The presentation outlines the creation of the International WELL Building Institute and The Well Building Standard, which is third party certified through collaboration with Green Business Certification Inc. – the certification body for the LEED Green Building Rating System. The framework of this innovative and extremely relevant standard encompasses seven concepts of wellness: Air, Water, Nourishment, Light, Fitness, Comfort and Mind and It's often a minor tweak, slight adjustment or just a focus on a specific concept that can make a tremendous difference to employee health and wellbeing and many of the recommended preventive medical intention strategies that respond to the performance metrics are intuitive while offering significant health benefits. OFS is offering this education as a commitment to further educating its partners with current and relevant industry education, supporting our continued investment in not just creating products that promote environments that focus on human centered design, but education on the innovative trends that support that commitment.

City of Lincoln Downtown Masterplan | Autonomous Vehicle
    1 HSW | Ballroom B

Downtown Lincoln is an exciting and vibrant place that has experienced significant change. Over the years, there have been significant public and private investments in new building construction, renovations, and infrastructure. In order to capitalize on these collective investments, further development in the Downtown should be realized and guided by an overall plan. The City desired to consult with experts to assist with creating a new Lincoln Downtown Master Plan. This new plan is not an update to previous plans but is a standalone document that will guide public and private investments to elevate Downtown Lincoln as the premier urban neighborhood in the region. Furthermore, the City of Lincoln is on the move. Understanding the direction and anticipating how new transportation technologies can be utilized, the City is embarking on one of the largest deployments of autonomous micro transit vehicles into a mixed traffic environment anywhere in the United States. This is an exciting time, with many emerging technologies that are poised to increase mobility options for individuals around the world, and Lincoln will establish itself as a community at the forefront of using those technologies for the good of its people.
