Designed by Dan and Jill Grasso, this home was built in 2007 by Brester Construction. The key to success for this husband and wife design team was a division of labor; Dan dealt with the site and exterior of the house, and Jill was responsible for the interior layout and finishes.
The house is organized around a courtyard, with all ground floor rooms except the main living space opening onto it. This design provides a usable outdoor space as well as a bright, naturally-lit interior. The home also includes a separate entrance for Jill’s business, which provides privacy for clients and staff.
On your way in to the home, take note of the unique landscaping, which is made up primarily of prairie grass and wildflowers, an experiment in progress. Also note the brick exterior, composed of previously unwanted brick found during construction and painted. This satisfied the desire to have a low-maintenance exterior for a fraction of the normal cost of brick, and results in an attractive look that will age well.
