2016 PARK(ing) Day
|
AIA Lincoln and The College of Architecture are teaming together to participate in PARK(ing) DAY, an annual global event where citizens, artists and activists collaborate to temporarily transform parking stalls into temporary public places. The project began in 2005 when Rebar, a San Francisco art and design studio, converted a single metered parking stall into a temporary public park in downtown San Francisco. PARK(ing) DAY has evolved into a global movement, with organizations and individuals creating new forms of temporary public space in urban contexts around the world. parkingday.org |

Update: AIA Nebraska Repositioning
After a year of study and exploration by the AIA Nebraska Board of Directors, and leadership of AIA Omaha, AIA Lincoln and AIA Western Nebraska, a proposed new structure is being unveiled in accordance with AIA National repositioning. This reorganization helps us streamline, so that we may offer more services and benefits to our members while facilitating additional collaboration between our statewide network of AIA members.
This matter has been discussed and supported by each chapter's (Omaha, Lincoln and Western Nebraska) board of directors. The simplified structure is a decision that was made after input from leaders of Nebraska's local chapters, research from around the country on how other chapters are reorganizing and advice from our legal expert. The result of diverse ideas and challenging questions is a proposed organization that will be stronger at both the State and Local levels, providing a platform for growth that will allow us to lead the nation in providing new and exciting ways to serve our members and represent our profession.

Join Jay Wilkinson as he reviews five major trends that are shaping a new reality for architects:
1. Advancing technology.
2. New ways to engage and collaborate.
3. Blurred lines between architecture, art, design and contracting.
4. The emergence of 'social impact' as a business model.
5. Shifting demographics creating challenges to workplace culture.

Over recent months, there have been many changes that will have a significant impact on employers who are governed by OSHA. (Generally speaking, OSHA is going to apply to most employers other than certain government employers, some small businesses, and certain other types of entities.) The changes briefly discussed in this e-brief range across a variety of issues: increased penalties for violations, new statements from OSHA with regard to post-accident drug testing, safety incentive programs, and new electronic reporting requirements.
Given the breadth of the recent changes, a one hour, lunch-and-learn webinar on the matters will be held on Thursday, September 8, 2016 at 12:30 pm Central / 11:30 am Mountain. Click here to Register for the webinar.
