AIA Nebraska Excellence in Design Awards

For over 60 years, the American Institute of Architects, Nebraska Chapter has celebrated outstanding architecture through the Excellence in Design program.

Registration for the 2018 AIA Nebraska Excellence in Design Program is now open.

AIA Member: $165/entry with the exception of the Masonry Category.

AIA Nebraska Emerging Professionals Excellence in Design
AIA/Assoc. AIA Member: $50/entry
AIAS Member:$25/entry

Extensions and refunds will not be granted after registration is submitted.

Entry Guidelines – AIA Nebraska Excellence in Design

Eligibility Criteria

  • Built projects must have been completed after January 1, 2011 for eligibility. Unbuilt projects must have been commissioned by January 1, 2011 for eligibility.
  • Entries may include groups of buildings, individual buildings, renovations, or additions to existing buildings or building interiors.
  • Persons submitting the entry must be a licensed AIA Nebraska member and have designed the entry or been a member of the project team.
  • Entry may be in any geographical location.
  • Previous project winners, excluding Unbuilt, Details, and Masonry categories along with People's Choice winners of the AIA Nebraska Excellence in Design program will not be eligible.
  • Projects receiving Citation or Honorable Mentions are not eligible for submission in the same winning category.

Categories

Excellence in Architecture: Encourage and recognize excellence in new buildings, restoration, and adaptive reuse.

Excellence in Interior Architecture: Encourage and recognize excellence in interior architecture.

Excellence in Unbuilt Design: Architectural design work that, to date remains unbuilt. Unbuilt architectural designs of any project type are eligible, including purely theoretical projects and unbuilt client-sponsored projects, such as buildings, interiors, transportation infrastructure, and monuments.

Excellence in Architectural Detail: Encourage and recognize architectural detail or design concept in use of a particular material, detail or building technology, detail may stand alone or reinforce an overall building concept in an exceptional manner.

Excellence in Masonry: Bringing recognition to AIA Nebraska members based on the technical and creative use of masonry in meeting aesthetic and functional design challenges. Projects are required to have masonry installed by mason contractors. Sponsored by the Nebraska Masonry Alliance.

 

Entry Guidelines – Emerging Architects Excellence in Design

Eligibility Criteria

  • Entrants can be AIAS, Associate AIA, or AIA members of AIA Nebraska under the age of 40 as of the end of 2017.
  • Entrants may submit work done independently, as a student, employee, or educator.
  • Group projects may be submitted, but only if every member of the group meets all of the eligibility requirements.
  • If a project is submitted for the AIA Nebraska Excellence in Design Awards it is not eligible for the Emerging Architects Excellence in Design Awards.
  • Meant to recognize young designers, not companies. Entries that are submitted under company names will NOT be considered.

Categories

Emerging Architects Unbuilt Design: Architectural design work that, to date remains unbuilt. Unbuilt architectural designs of any project type are eligible, including purely theoretical projects and unbuilt client – sponsored projects, such as buildings, interiors, transportation infrastructure, and monuments.

Emerging Architects Architectural Detail: Encourage and recognize architectural detail or design concept in use of a particular material, detail, or building technology. Detail may stand alone or reinforce an overall building concept in an exceptional manner.

All digital and physical submissions, including renderings and slideshows, must be the work of the designer(s) responsible for the project submitted. If a designer was responsible for only certain parts of the larger project, only the portions designed by the qualified entrant may be submitted.

 

Awards

Design Award winners will be presented at the Excellence in Design Gala on November 9, 2018. Time and Location of the Gala will be announced at a later date.
